Sustainable Luxury at Dubai Fashion Week brought a focus on recycled materials and waste-to-fashion designs to the Middle East’s fashion calendar. The event featured designers incorporating plastic waste into high-end garments, highlighting the intersection of environmental responsibility and glamour.
Recycled Caps and Macramé
The first show of the day, Pipatchara, presented its SS24 collection, “The Eternal Symphony.” The brand, run by sister-duo designers, showcased 30 looks featuring signature macramé weaving and advanced laser-cut techniques. The designers infused the collection with sparkle using micro-plastics.
The collection introduced embroidered flowers in shades of green, black, white, and grey, accented with crystals and silver. These elements were dyed using organic methods, reinforcing a message of responsible consumerism. The collection successfully balanced environmental themes with visual opulence. The brand has spent over two years researching how to transform waste into wearable, priceless clothing, pushing the boundaries of what is possible with trash materials.
Turning Trash into Beauty
The runway design itself highlighted the potential of plastic recycling. A large amount of plastic was transformed into glitter, covering the catwalk. As models walked, the ground shimmered under the lights, visually reinforcing the brand’s concept.
The designer wore her own creation during the finale, featuring an “infinitude” top made from recycled Singha bottle caps. This piece serves as a primary example of her design codes. The runway was not the only place to see this innovation; the production process was documented in a short video shown before the show.
It is rare for sustainable fashion to command the same attention as traditional luxury. Usually, eco-conscious designs prioritize function over form, but this collection proved that waste materials can achieve high-fashion aesthetics without sacrificing visual impact. The production process involved capturing the inspiration, the shivers felt during creation, and the unending fervor to deliver an exciting show for the audience.
Celebrity Endorsement
The show closed with Loujain Adada, known as LJ from the reality TV show Dubai Bling. She wore a crystal rope top with infinitude flowers and a low-waist skirt with asymmetrical ruffles. Her presence showed the commercial appeal of the brand’s approach.
Loujain Adada, better known as LJ from the reality TV show Dubai Bling, is the second most richest star in the show with a net worth between USD 3.8 to USD 4 Billion according to Women’s Health. Her attendance demonstrated the commercial viability of sustainable luxury, as she charmed the attendees wearing a brilliant Pipatchara styled crystal rope top with infinitude flowers and a graceful low waist skirt with asymmetrical ruffles.
