Sports Direct has launched its first-ever brand exclusive Christmas ad with Nike. The campaign, titled ‘Unwrap Potential’, features Manchester City striker Erling Haaland and British rapper Aitch.

A Star-Studded Cast of Athletes

The ad centres on AI Athlete Intelligence. It includes an elite team of sporting and cultural stars. Henry Pollock, a Northampton Saints and England rugby player, is featured. Olympic sprinter Dina Asher-Smith and England women’s football captain Leah Williamson also appear. They spotlight gift ideas for sports fans.

Aitch, who was on ‘I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!’ in 2025, offers his take on trainers and streetwear. In the ad, he asks Haaland about a gift for his sisters. Haaland is seen on screen studying a young female footballer’s freekick technique. He then identifies the perfect Nike football boots for her.

The Campaign Film and Retail Rollout

Created by Chaos x Magic, the ‘Unwrap Potential’ campaign is brought to life in a 60-second hero film. The story follows an uncle looking for a Christmas present for his niece. An elite team of gift advisers, using their Athlete Intelligence, spots her potential. They recommend a pair of Erling Haaland’s Nike ‘Phantom 6 Low’ football boots.

The hero film is supported by five 10-second films. These explore gifting scenarios for runners, hybrid trainers, and footballers. Directed by Tyrus Hill through Park Pictures, the campaign “blends the precision of elite sport with the humour, heart and unpredictability of Christmas.”

Michael Murray, CEO of Frasers Group (Sports Direct’s parent company), called it a “powerful example of the Elevation Strategy.” He said it promises to be their most impactful Christmas campaign yet. César García, VP/GM of Nike EMEA, added that the partnership aims to bring more people to sport and inspire the next generation.

The campaign launched on Tuesday, 3 November. It will run on TV, social media, digital platforms, out-of-home advertising, and in Sports Direct stores. The talent-led gift guides will extend the campaign, offering shoppers practical inspiration. In the UK, Sports Direct will amplify the campaign through its Raise retail media network, which reaches over 32 million customers.
