Retailers are adopting omnichannel KPIs to measure performance across multiple touchpoints.

Fashion retailers now have unprecedented access to data, but identifying which metrics truly drive performance is becoming more complex. Traditional KPIs like footfall, channel-specific sales conversion, sales per square foot, and average transaction value are losing relevance as customer journeys span multiple touchpoints—from e-commerce sites and marketplaces to physical stores and social media platforms.

The Shift to Omnichannel Metrics

The challenge has evolved beyond tracking performance across channels to understanding how these channels interact to influence customer acquisition, engagement, and conversion. Arun AB, VP at Libas, notes that a channel-siloed view provides an incomplete picture of business drivers. Libas operates around 250 crore in EBOs across 13 states and is expanding omnichannel capabilities, including real-time inventory visibility and fulfillment between EBOs, dark stores, and quick commerce, covering 30-40% of its store network by the end of the financial year.

When a size is unavailable at an outlet, the network enables fulfillment from a nearby dark store within 60-120 minutes in key cities, preventing lost sales. This adaptability transforms performance measurement from store-specific sales to network-wide enablement. Kush Choudhary, Operations Head at Latin Quarters, emphasizes that omnichannel success requires metrics like Customer Lifetime Value (CLV), Omnichannel Conversion Rate, sell-through percentage, inventory turnover, and Gross Margin Return on Inventory Investment (GMROII), alongside order fulfillment speed and Net Promoter Score.

The Role of AI in Data Analysis

Yousta, a youth-focused value retailer, prioritizes customer engagement, cross-channel behavior, and speed-to-market, particularly for trends that shift rapidly among Gen Z consumers. Their “Thrilling Thursday” fresh drops strategy reflects an emphasis on quickly understanding and responding to customer preferences. Uplaksh Tewary, COO at Campus Activewear, highlights AI’s role in accelerating execution through improved demand forecasting, inventory planning, and faster decision-making across their omnichannel ecosystem.

Arun from Libas uses data analytics to forecast demand for 100-150 new styles weekly, enabling more accurate inventory decisions at scale. However, scaling this to q-commerce poses challenges due to the number of dark stores and size variations, prompting continued investment in data infrastructure. AI-powered analytics, combined with ERP, POS systems, and BI dashboards, help brands map the entire consumer journey and create unified performance views.

Future Focus on Digital Halo Effect

As online and offline channels integrate more closely, brands are increasingly focusing on a store’s “digital halo effect”—how physical outlets drive online discovery and conversion in their catchment area. Smart KPIs, defined as Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-Bound, leverage AI to deliver descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive insights. Descriptive KPIs explain past and current performance, predictive KPIs forecast outcomes using historical data, and prescriptive KPIs recommend corrective actions based on targets.

For Gen Z consumers, trend responsiveness is critical, as yesterday’s trend can quickly become today’s news. This adaptability requires retailers to monitor not just sales but the speed of understanding and responding to customer demand. The convergence of channels demands a holistic view of performance, where metrics like repeat purchase rate and customer acquisition cost versus lifetime value become essential for sustainable growth and profitability.
